Secure IIoT Solutions 

Within the framework of the SHELL project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), we are developing an integrated management system with our partners to better protect IIoT devices in critical infrastructures from cyberattacks. 

Areas of application include highly networked systems such as modern automobiles, industrial IoT devices, and critical infrastructures – anywhere manipulation, sabotage, or complex cyberattacks must be prevented.

Data Connectivity Between OT and IT

The Challenge

Industrial companies must consolidate and utilize ever-increasing volumes of data from disparate systems. Information from development, process planning, the shop floor, control, and management is often isolated, non-standardized, and difficult to link.

Agentic AI Solutions

The combined provision of structured data from the automation pyramid, along with semi-structured and unstructured data, supplemented by user knowledge, enables the intelligent linking of information through generative AI agent systems across all levels—from product development and production to management. This significantly improves data-driven information delivery.

Python plays a crucial role as a lingua franca among the available technology stacks. Together with solution components from the ASAM ODS standard and the Python ASAM ODSBox, a platform can be provided that integrates and homogenizes a wide variety of file-based data formats, thus offering them as high-quality machine learning (ML) data.

This forms the basis for AI agent systems that connect the different data layers and create added value.

Industry Standards

Standards enable vendor-neutral solution components and prevent vendor lock-in. Often, standards only cover a portion of the solution space – examples include:

• Asset Administration Shell (AAS) for data from the production process (e.g., digital product passport)
• ASAM ODS (Open Data Services) standard from the automotive industry for development data
