Integrate physical and logical security requirements

Optimized identity management for secure physical access processes at ONTRAS

Challenge: efficient management of identities and physical access authorizations

ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH is one of the leading German companies in the long-distance pipeline network sector. It operates a high-pressure network of 7,700 kilometers and is responsible for secure gas transport in the new federal states. As a so-called KRITIS company, the security requirements are particularly high. The central “Plant Security Service Department” was faced with the challenge of efficiently managing a growing volume of internal and external employees, contractors and visitors while maintaining the highest security standards.

In particular, the management of physical access authorizations for different groups of people and the coordination of access systems were extremely complex. In addition, the onboarding and offboarding of employees and external personnel required a great deal of human resources. A modern and centralized solution was needed to meet the requirements.

The solution: introduction of the Peak Security Suite

ONTRAS decided to introduce Peak Security Suite in order to centralize and optimize the management of identities and access rights. The suite integrates physical and digital security requirements and enables seamless management of identities and identification media for employees, external personnel and visitors.

With the introduction of the solution, ONTRAS has been able to automate its security processes to a greater extent and thus significantly increase their efficiency. For example, the synchronization of user master data with the HR system ensures that user information is always up-to-date, while the centralized management of authorizations ensures simple and secure access assignment.

Another key benefit of the suite is the introduction of self-service functions that allow employees, visitors and external personnel to submit authorization requests independently via a browser. Automated workflows in the background ensure that the administrative effort for processing the different groups of people is minimized and the approval process is significantly accelerated. Thanks to flexible connectors, the existing access control system from Bosch could be easily integrated into the solution without having to replace the existing infrastructure.

Better compliance and scalability

The Peak Security Suite also ensures complete traceability of the assigned rights and thus supports strict adherence to compliance guidelines. At the same time, the robust microservices architecture ensures that the solution is highly scalable and expandable. This allows ONTRAS to flexibly adapt the system to growing requirements and easily integrate additional functions at any time.

Felix Czichos from the central Plant Security Service Department is convinced: “The introduction of Peak Security Suite has made our identity and access processes significantly more efficient and secure. We particularly appreciate the flexibility of the solution and the seamless integration into our existing systems. Thanks to the scalability of the system, we are ideally prepared for future requirements. The collaboration with Peak Solution was and is consistently professional and reliable.”

Outlook: further development of the security processes

A decisive step towards digitalization and security has thus been taken: Peak Security Suite enables the efficient and traceable management of identities and access rights and ensures that the company can continue to react flexibly to the growing demands on the facility management of a KRITIS company in the future. The collaboration with Peak Solution has shown how technological innovation and expertise can lead to sustainable improvements in company processes.

In collaboration with Peak Solution, ONTRAS is now planning to further expand the digitalization of authorization allocation in the coming years. In future, individual processes are to be automated to an even greater extent and additional functions are to be introduced for the multifunctional company ID cards.
